Holiday Slumber

Please be aware of the following for next Thursday, December 22nd:

• We will be watching the movie Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. Rated PG (please sign permission slip sent home if you approve)
• Your child may wear their pajamas to school, bring slippers, a stuffed animal and a pillow.
• Your child may bring their own special snack to have during the movie. Please be sure it is peanut and tree nut free.
• We will also have a chapter book swap. If you would like your child to participate, they can bring in a wrapped chapter book they would like to swap. The book can be new or gently used. Please label the book for a boy, a girl or for either.

Rocket Day

Friday, October 21st is Rocket Day! Please join us at the MSMS field for launching at 9:00 a.m. If you wish to walk with us to the field, meet us in the Memorial School lobby at 8:45. We will have a blast!!!

Change of Venue

Rocket Building

What a Week!

We had such a great week in room 237! There are a few things that I want to remind you of:

Backpack Folders go home every Friday. There will be notices from the office as well as papers/notices from me. Please be sure to look through the folders then sign and date the sheet in the back. Your signature verifies that you have seen the content in the folder. They should be brought back to school on Monday.

Homework folders go back and forth from school everyday. This is where you should put and look for daily notices.

Homework will be assigned on Mondays and due by Friday. Your child will have the assignments written in their planners. You should sign their planner when all the assignments are complete. Homework gets passed in with the planner all together, when it is finished. You can write any questions or concerns for me in their planner, or on their Backpack Folder paper.

Spelling Tests will be every Friday.

Open House

Open House is on Thursday, September 22 at 6:30. This is a night for parents. More details to follow.

Folders

Your child will be bringing home two folders each week. One is a daily homework folder that will travel back forth between home and school each night. In this folder, students will keep their homework, and bring home corrected homework and classwork. This is also where you should put daily notices for me or the office.

The second folder is a weekly “backpack” folder. In this folder, your child will be bringing home school notices, classroom notices and work from the week. One side of the folder will be dedicated to school notices, and the other to my notices and class work. This folder will go home every Friday, and come back every Monday. Tucked in the back of the folder will be a parent reflection sheet. I ask that each weekend, you initial this sheet, and write any questions or comments that you have about your child’s school work.

Summer Reading Assignment

Your reading assignment for this summer is to read Stuart's Cape by Sara Pennypacker.

When you have finished reading about Stuart and his cape, please answer two of the following questions:

1) a. In the story, Stuart creates a cape to help him be brave. Give some examples from the story of how the cape helps him face his fears…or gets him in trouble.
b. Tell about a time you had to be brave. What helped you?

2.) a. Stuart has to face some tough times in the story. Give some examples of
challenges he faces in his new school.
b. Tell about a time you faced a difficult situation. What did you do? What helped you through this time?

3) In the story Stuart creates a magical cape. In fourth grade, you will be creating
an invention all your own. If you could invent anything (magical or not), what would it be? Use your imagination to describe your invention in enough detail that I can picture it. You may draw a picture if you would like.

Please bring this assignment with you on the first day of school.
